It has been a tradition that has now become truly Singaporean: The Night Festival @ the Museum. Though this event needs no introduction, here is a snippet reminder for those who have forgotten, or a tell-all for those who have no idea what this is. The Singapore Night Festival involves 3 main museums in the Bras Basah.Bugis area. It entails museums to be opened up until 2am in the morning, with a string of various entertaining acts for viewers to enjoy. The highlight of this event is the transformation of the facade of the National Museum into a giant projector screen, upon which mini movies are displayed for eager spectators to enjoy from in front of, across and around the vicinity (its a very VERY big screen). Other events include acrobatic performances and free museum passes, along with live music and a throng of eager Singaporeans and tourists seeking joy in being a part of a national event.

This year, the Night Festival is in full form with a theme of Singapore's independence under it's belt. Since its start on the 24th of August, images and short artistic movies have been on display at the National Museum of Singapore, along with participation from neighboring establishments such as SMU, which hosted "Metamorphosis", a stage of classical musical performances for the modern day Singaporean, on the 24th and 25th of August. The Grand Cathay is also a part of these celebrations, with "Free Running" by the Ashton's Movements Agency. Catch some of Singapore's talented individuals rolling, climbing and jumping through obstacles creatively. This is one performance that will have anyone awe-struck.
Another highlight of this magnificent event is the new flexibility in Museum opening hours, especially for this event. The participating museums, mainly: The National Museum of Singapore, The Singapore Arts Museum and The Singapore Peranakan Museum all will remain open with free entrance up until 2am, during the Night Festival. Take this opportunity by your stride and participate in a sea of people heading towards artistic realization in this period of two weekends. Besides the Museums, the entire vicinity has lit up for the event, with bars and pubs offering promotions for the period of time, as well as posh french Bistro Balzac Brasserie offering special discounts for the night. This is one event NOT to be missed by anyone, as we in Singapore make artistic noise on an international level.
